This Term our Topic is Who am I?

Reception will learn about their bodies, recognise and describe feelings, they will talk about themselves and their families. They will make new friends and talk about what makes a good friend and how we can show with our words and actions that we are good friends.

We will be: moving our bodies in different ways, learning about the different parts of our bodies, and how our bodies feel when we exercise. We will learn about the five senses and investigate how we use them.

We will be reading Head to Toe by Eric Carle, and a range of traditional stories, as well as stories linked to feelings, families, and friendships.

In Mathematics we will be counting to 10 and beyond and begin to explore how these numbers are made up. We learn to look for amounts within 3,4 and 5. The children will explore and name 2D shapes and make their own patterns with shapes, counters, autumn objects, blocks and hoops

In Literacy we will learn to match letters and sounds, retell stories in our own words with books, pictures and puppets and learn to form letters correctly. We will write simple CVC words e.g. c/a/t h/o/p p/i/g and write labels for our pictures and drawings.

General Class Information

Reading:

Each week, the children have exposure to a range of texts through their phonics, wider learning and our book area. We will begin Guided Reading sessions and suggest Collins Phonics books to read online, we will also read for pleasure at the our end of day at story time and borrow library books.

Reading with your child at home is also very important to help provide your child with a love of reading. Soon your child will bring home a school reading book to read to you at home. This book will be linked with the Letters and Sounds Phonics that they have been learning in class. The books will have phonemes and tricky words in that we have learnt to read, and decodable words appropriate for the stage where your child is at in Phonics. It is vital for your child’s reading development that they read and share these books with adults at home.

Each week your child will be visiting our school library and will be bringing a library book home for you to read together. We will also choose one child each week to share a class library book at home and we ask you to support their reading development by discussing the book, and asking your child questions, so that they can express their opinion about the story.

 Homework:

Homework letters are sent every week explaining the homework that has been set and should be returned to school by the Wednesday of the following week.

Throughout the school day we make observations of your children in play to form part of their EYFS Learning Journey. If you notice anything significant at home, for example your child makes something creative or comments on something that they see, you can jot it down on a ‘Discovered at Home’ sheets and send it in to us.  We would love to read them and respond to them with your child!

 P.E:

PE is on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Children should have a full kit in school with white t shirt and black shorts and pumps. Please let us know if you need support in providing this for your child.

Children should not be wearing any jewellery including earrings. If your child does wear earrings, ensure they are taken out before PE.

Snack:

Snack is provided by school; we offer a wide range of fruit, crackers and breadsticks each day. School provides milk at snack time. Please send your child to school with a water bottle that is to be taken home and washed every day. Due to allergies and food intolerances, please do try not send your child with their own snack.

We look forward to playing and learning with you in this first term in Reception.
