Take a look at what we will be learning during the spring term here

This Half Term our Topic What is Hattersley like?

Reception will learn about the Local Area and the families and people that live and work in Hattersley. They will learn about shops, roads, buildings and other features of Hattersley.

We will be reading Hairy McClary and The Rumpus at the Vet and a range of traditional stories, as well as stories linked to the local area and People Who Help Us, we will also visit the library.

In Mathematics we will be counting to 10 and beyond and begin to explore how these numbers are made up. We learn to look for amounts within numbers to 10 and compare and order numbers. The children will explore and name 2D shapes and 3D shapes using images, patterns and printing.

In Literacy we will learn to match letters and sounds, retell stories in our own words with books, pictures and puppets and learn to form letters correctly. We will write simple phrases and begin to write simple sentences.

Reading:

Each week, the children have exposure to a range of texts through their phonics, wider learning and our book area. We will continue our Guided Reading sessions and suggest Collins Phonics books to read online, we will also read for pleasure at our end of day at story time and borrow library books.

Reading with your child at home is also very important to help provide your child with a love of reading. Soon your child will bring home a school reading book to read to you at home. This book will be linked with the Letters and Sounds Phonics that they have been learning in class. The books will have phonemes and tricky words in that we have learnt to read, and decodable words appropriate for the stage where your child is at in Phonics. It is vital for your child’s reading development that they read and share these books with adults at home.

Each week your child will be visiting our school library and will be bringing a library book home for you to read together. We will also choose one child each week to share a class library book at home and we ask you to support their reading development by discussing the book, and asking your child questions, so that they can express their opinion about the story.

Home Learning:

Newsletters are sent every week explaining the homework that has been set. This will be practical games and activities that you can do at home or online.

P.E:

PE is on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Children should have a full kit in school with white t shirt and black shorts and pumps. Please let us know if you need support in providing this for your child.

Children should not be wearing any jewellery including earrings. If your child does wear earrings, ensure they are taken out before PE.

Snack:

Snack is provided by school; we offer a wide range of fruit, crackers and breadsticks each day. School provides milk at snack time. Please send your child to school with a water bottle that is to be taken home and washed every day. Due to allergies and food intolerances, please do try not send your child with their own snack.

We look forward to playing and learning with you in Spring term. Look out for dates for Stay and Read sessions and Mid-Year Meet the Teacher in Reception.
